Smaraki Mohanty captured the State women chess title for the third time in a row and fourth time in total at Bharati Vidya Mandir in Kendrapara today. She had won this title for the first time in the year 2011.
Titled as Nalini Mohanty Memorial Odisha State Women Chess Championship, the two-day tournament was hosted by Kendrapara District Chess Association (KDCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA).
Anisha Mishra of Puri finished runner-up, while Gitashree Biswal (Cuttack) and Priyanka Routray (Rourkela) occupied the third and fourth positions respectively in the final standings. The top four finishers qualified to represent Odisha in the Women National Challenger Chess Championship, scheduled to be held at Chennai from June 17 to 25, 2016.
Rajnagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty graced closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the prizes. AOCA treasurer G C Mohapatra and KDCA secretary Bhavesh Mohanty were present on the occasion.
